Class C Strategist I Licensure Program

What is the Strategist I Network?

The Strategist I Network, sponsored by the Iowa Department of Education, provides a program of study for classroom teachers who hold Class C licenses as they work towards completing the requirements for a Strategist I endorsement. Courses are offered over the Internet, ICN, by correspondence, or at any of the campuses or satellite locations of the nine participating institutions of higher education throughout Iowa. Once teacher competencies have been met, the Department of Education, rather than an institution of higher education, recommends the teacher for Strategist I licensure.  The Network is an endorsement-only program and not intended for those seeking a graduate degree.

How do I get a Class C License?
Classroom teachers, with twelve hours coursework in special education can apply for and receive a Class C license allowing them to provide instructional support for students with mild and moderate needs while completing the requirements for a Strategist I license. For more information on Class C licenses, contact Michael Cavin at Mike.Cavin@iowa.gov or (515) 281-3437.  To download the application for the Class C license, click on the link below.

Benefits for Teachers and Administrators

Teachers—The Strategist I Network allows teachers to take advantage of coursework that is timely, convenient, and more easily accessible than traditional programs of study.  The program provides the kind of flexibility that working teachers need when adding an endorsement to an existing license.  Additionally, participants are allowed to meet minimum state requirements for the endorsement.

Administrators—Administrators who are seeking to fill special education Strategist I positions (formerly Multi-categorical Resource and Multi-categorical Self-contained with Integration positions) can take advantage of the support offered to teachers by referring interested candidates to the program.
